the story behind the knots

The story of Macrametista starts on a beautiful Island in the atlantic ocean called Tenerife. It is not just a story about how two people build a business, it is actually a love story.

There was a young woman that just started a big adventure, probably the biggest of her life, she quitted all her contracts, she donated almost all her belongings, and left her home country . She wants to feel alive and independent again, responsible for her own luck and health. She found herself a Job, bought her first car and explored the beauty of the island Tenerife. That was the time when she saw for the first time the beautiful creations of a macrame artist on a Market. She immediately bought a neckless, she was never able to wear jewelry, because of her allergy against nickel. This inspired her highly. She started to do her first knots. She improved also with the help of the artist from who she bought her first neckless.

She felt more and more connected to the island, to the ocean and to the nature. She loves being out at the sea on the sharp rocks with their bizarre forms. One day she realized that she actually just goes home for sleeping, and that she even would prefer being outside in the night. So she left her apartment, and found herself a small cave directly at the sea and moved in there. She made it her home and after short time other people came to live in the caves nearby and they share their time and knowledge. One day she sits on the rocks doing her knots, and a young man came by asking if she can teach him doing macrame. His name was Lukas.

There was this young man. He is the type of person that does the things, you will rarely see an unready project around him, when he has an idea he will go for it, a real handyman. He is not afraid of life and it came that he felt a strong connection to the canary islands. He took off from work and decided to travel for some time and discover what Tenerife has to offer. His independent lifestyle and his longing for experience of alternative communities brought him to the eco-project of Arafo. Just from recycled material he found on the streets he build there his own small hut. Together with the community there he had a great time of learning and exchange knowledge. So it came he met a guy called Lukas, and Lukas showed him the basics of Macrame. Lukas told him that he las learned from a woman living at the sea, called Barbara.

Time passed and it happened that the weather in Arafo changed and the Members of the eco village made a travel down to the sea, where the sun always shines. And the young man decided to stay a bit at the caves by the sea.

Barbara, meanwhile living half a year at the caves, one day discovered, that she has got a new neighbor, his name was Johannes.
